Jakai Moore (50) and Yusef Salih (23) combined for 15 points and nine rebounds Friday during a 62-55 win over West Springfield.

A well-rounded performance from Hagen Vandiver led the Patriot Pioneers to a 62-55 win Friday over West Springfield during the RAL Tip Off boys basketball tournament at South Lakes High School.

He led the Pioneers with five assists, five rebounds and two steals, while adding 16 points, to boost their record to 2-0. Devon Parrish, meanwhile, led them with 17 points (4-for-6 3-point shooting) and helped them hold off the Spartans’ 11-5 third-quarter run after Patriot took a 16-14 lead in the first period en route to a 40-29 halftime advantage.

Yusef Salih added eight points, four assists and four rebounds, while Jakai Moore added seven points and five rebounds. Marcus Taylor also had five rebounds.

Brentsville girls basketball 44, Seton 40

Freshman Gabrielle Garrison scored 17 points Friday to keep the Brentsvile Tigers undefeated with a 44-40 victory over Seton’s girls basketball team during the Forest Park Tip-off girls basketball tournament on the road in Woodbridge.

She made five 3-pointers to help give her 39 of Brentsville’s 120 points this season (33 percent) en route to a 3-0 record.

Fellow guards Caiyiah Smith and Catherine Forst added eight and seven points, respectively, Friday. Forst made 4 of 4 free throws for the Tigers, who took a 19-17 halftime lead.

For Seton, Julie Hill had 13 points, while Emma Clifton had 10 and Alana Compton had nine. Clifton and Compton each made three 3-pointers.

Oakton girls basketball 63, Stonewall Jackson 48

Despite three double-digit scorers, the Stonewall Jackson Raiders suffered their first loss of the girls basketball season Friday, falling to Oakton 63-48 on the road in Fairfax.

Imani Burke had 14 points with Zoe Kanti and Reina Washington adding 10 each, but Stonewall’s record dropped to 2-1 after falling behind 19-11 in the first quarter. Oakton took a 35-23 halftime lead before entering the fourth period with a 48-34 advantage.

Maryan Yusuf added seven points and Nataezja Gaskins had five, while Burke had six rebounds with Kanti and Washington adding four each. Washington also had four steals and Kanti had three, while Gaskins had three rebounds.

Kanti and Yusuf added two assists each, but the Raiders made only 7 of 26 3-pointers (34 percent) and 5 of 13 free throws (38 percent).
