Maria Mendo and the Brentsville Tigers will play Saturday in the Class 3 state championship game for the third consecutive season.

The Class 3 state championship will again come down to a rematch between the Brentsville Tigers and Western Albemarle’s girls soccer team.

Brentsville beat Monticello 3-1 Friday during the semifinals in Salem to earn a berth in the tournament final for the third consecutive season against Western Albemarle, which beat the Tigers 3-0 last season and 2-0 in 2017. The four-time state champion Warriors advanced this season by defeating William Monroe 3-0 Friday, while Brentsville will enter the final Saturday with a 10-game winning streak and a 16-2-2 record.

Against Monticello, while playing in heavy rain, Madison Fitzpatrick scored the winning goal with about 14 minutes remaining in the first half after Catharine Forst gave Brentsville a 1-0 lead with about 27:45 remaining on a Madeline Bohan assist.

Monticello narrowed its deficit to 2-1 late in the first half, but Forst scored again in the second half with a header off a corner kick by Emily Payne.
