UPDATED: Police have identified a man arrested in connection with a shooting in a Manassas-area apartment complex Tuesday as Nigel Emanuel McCauley, 34, of no fixed address.

McCauley initially fled the scene of the shooting, which occurred at 10:16 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, in the Maplewood Park apartment complex, located in the 8100 block of Peakwood Court in the Manassas area of Prince William County.

The investigation revealed the victim, a 35-year-old man whom police have not identified, and an acquaintance, identified as McCauley, were involved in an altercation that escalated. During the encounter, the victim was shot, suffering serious injuries, police said in a press release.

McCauley fled the complex, Prince William County police said.

Officers eventually located McCauley later that morning in the Gainesville area, where he was detained without further incident, police said.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.

McCauley has been charged with malicious woundinguse of a firearm in commission of a felonyand possession of a firearm by a convicted felonin connection with the incident.

UPDATED 12 p.m.: Police have arrested a suspect in a shooting Tuesday morning that left one man hospitalized with serious injuries.

At 10:16 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, officers responded to the Maplewood Park Apartments, on the 8100 block of Peakwood Court in the Manassas area to investigate a shooting, Prince William County Police spokeswoman Renee Carr said in a news release.

Police said a 35-year-old man and his acquaintance, identified as Nigel Emanuel McCauley, "were involved in an altercation that escalated."

During the altercation, police said, McCauley shot the victim before fleeing the apartment complex.

Officers located McCauley later that morning in the Gainesville area, "where he was detained without further incident," police said in the news release.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

McCauley, 34, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held without bond, police said.
