Lake Ridge home damaged by lightning, fire May 2, 2019

This Lake Ridge-area home, located in the 11000 block of Cardinal Ridge Court, was damaged by a fire caused by lightning Sunday, June 2.

Two people were displaced Sunday when their Lake Ridge-area home was struck by lightning, igniting a fire that began in the garage, according to Prince William County Fire and Rescue officials.

Firefighters were called to the 11000 block of Cardinal Ridge Court, located off of Occoquan Club Drive, at about 6:11 p.m. Sunday, June 2.

Units arrived to find heavy fire showing from the single-family home. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, and there were no injuries reported, according to a report posted on the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department’s Facebook page.

“The occupants heard a loud boom and in a short time smoke detectors were sounding,” the report said.

The home has been posted unsafe to occupy. The Red Cross assisted with the displacement of the two occupants. The Fire Marshal's Office has determined a lightning strike as the cause of the fire, the report said.
