Free COVID-19 testing will be available to everyone in the Prince William area on Monday and Tuesday, according to county officials.

Free drive-thru and walk-up testing will be available at Hylton Memorial Chapel in Woodbridge on Monday, May 18, and at Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas on Tuesday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The testing site at the Hylton Memorial Chapel is accessible via Omniride.

The two-day testing is made possible through the efforts of Prince William County government, Prince William Health District, Virginia Department of Health and Mako Medical Laboratories, according to a press release from the Prince William County Joint Information Center

Those who attend the testing sites on Monday and Tuesday will be:

  • Directed into one of multiple lanes (drive-thru or walk-up)

  • Asked for their name, date of birth, address, phone number and current symptoms

  • Asked to proceed to the next station to have their specimen collected (nasal is preferable, but oral swabs are available upon request)

  • Asked to proceed to the exit

The Virginia Department of Health will contact participants with their results before the end of the week. It is unclear at this time if those without symptoms will be given a test.

The new testing sites were announced less than a week after county Supervisors Margaret Angela Franklin, D-Woodbridge; Victor Angry, D-Neabsco; and Andrea Bailey, D-Potomac; sent a letter to the local health district requesting increased testing and testing sites in their districts.

The request for more testing came after ZIP Code level data was released by the Virginia Department of Health last week that showed that areas of Manassas and east Prince William County were among the hardest hit areas in the state.

On Saturday, Franklin said in a phone call that it looked as if their call for increased testing “has been answered.”

Franklin said details regarding an additional new testing site in the Woodbridge area will be likely be announced later this week.

Board Chair Ann Wheeler, D-At Large, said in Saturday’s press release that increasing testing is a priority for the board of county supervisors.

“We know it is very important to have a full understanding of the impact of the virus in the county, so that we can keep others healthy and work towards meeting the necessary health metrics for reopening,” Wheeler said.

The Hylton Memorial Chapel is located at 14640 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge. Stonewall Jackson High School is located at 8820 Rixlew Lane, Manassas.

This report will be updated with more information as it is made available.
