Supervisor Pete Candland came out on top of today's Republican firehouse primary in the Gainesville District, beating challenger Ray Mizener.

Mizener, 43, offered Candland, 44, his congratulations on his Facebook page at 6:36 p.m. Saturday.

"Congratulations to Pete Candland on a good win. It was an honor to be your opponent and I wish you the best of luck in November," Mizener wrote.

Candland is seeking a third term in the Gainesville District.  He will likely face Democrat Danny Funderburk in the Nov. 5 general election for the Gainesville District seat on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.
